The 8 most common website mistakes people make when they’re building a website. There are numerous things that can go wrong if you try to build your own website or if you hire someone to do it for you. So I thought I’d compile a list of some of the most common mistakes people make on their websites.
1. Overloading of the main menu
Maintain a straightforward approach. Maximum of 5 links! You don’t want your visitors to become perplexed. Create a customer journey and make it as simple as possible for them to do what you want them to do on your site.
2. Images of poor quality
Ensure that all images are clear and consistent with the brand. You don’t want them to be of poor quality or to take an inordinate amount of time to load. Also, make sure they have the same color scheme and complement each other.
3. Excessively busy visually
Your website should have a simple design and not be overly complicated.
4. There is no SEO.
Your website will be difficult to find if it is not optimized for search engines. Make an effort on this. There is a lot of information on the internet about how to do it.
5. Lacking of a strong Call too action
Every page can have one call-to-action! Inform your visitors to make a call or download your freebie.
6. Experimenting with fonts
Stick to no more than two or three fonts at most. It will not look good if you mix too many. Avoid using scripts for anything other than headlines.
7. Broken hyperlinks
A broken link is the epitome of unprofessionalism. Before you publish your website, double-check that they work.
8. Overly formal tone
Unless you work for a bank or something… Be yourself! Your ideal clients are curious about you and your quirks!
